Biography

Joel Burdick was born in Rahway, New Jersey on May 22, 1959. He received his B.S. degree from Duke University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University. Burdick then moved onto Cal Tech, and became an assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering there in 1988. He has been there ever since, and today he is Richard L. and Dorothy M. Hayman Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering and a Jet Propulsion Laboratory Research Scientist. His research has focused on robotic motion and the medical applications of robotics. kinematics, mechanical systems and control.
